Helllll yes. The Last Dance has been awesome these past three Sundays, but with only four episodes left, we need more content to keep us occupied until sports come back. Thankfully, ESPN is going to be releasing more documentaries. One of them is Long Gone Summer, the story of the great home run race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in 1998. McGwire ended up besting Sosa by four long balls (70-66), but both passed Roger Maris’ original record of 61 cockshots in 1961. Fun fact: Sammy Sosa hit 60 or more home runs in three different seasons, and in none of those seasons was he the league home run leader. That’s baseball, Suzyn.
Saying these guys were on steroids is more obvious than saying Kylie Jenner has had plastic surgery. Who cares? Certainly not this blogger. I might not value steroid guys’ records as legit compared to “clean” guys, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate how fucking awesome it was to watch these guys absolutely punish baseballs. Baseball in the late 90’s/early 2000’s was electric, at a level of popularity that I’m dying for it to get back to. Without further ado, the piss missiles I promised in the headline:
I miss baseball.
